Pre-Op Appointment

I had my pre-op appointment for my deviated septum surgery for my sleep apnea and migraines in December. It looks like I will be off work for a week and I will have to spend the night in the surgical short stay observation area, which isn't an actual room, but does have curtains, which is freaking me out a little cause I was hoping for more privacy. Hopefully, I will be on enough drugs not to care at the time.

Judging by my blood pressure at the pre-op appointment, I'm going to be a nervous wreck on the day of the surgery. I've had surgery before, so I'm not sure why I'm having so much anxiety. I think I'm afraid that I will go through all this and it still won't help the sleep apnea and migraines, etc...

To be honest, I'm already having boatloads of anxiety cause I'm worried that I'm not going to be approved for the time off work, and the paperwork process is so long. This early winter is so depressing and the holidays always get me down, too. I'm trying to talk to myself like an adult so I don't have a complete melt down by the end of this year, but it's so hard.

Sugar Migraine Skull

I recently saw an exhibit at The Detroit Institute of Arts for Ofrendas by local artists. They not only honored the dead, but places, moments in time, ideas and events, so I was inspired to try drawing some of my own Sugar Migraine Skulls.

Migraine Doodle Venting

I've really been having a rough time with my allergies this season, and now it looks like it is going to be an early fall, which is another bad migraine trigger for me when the the seasons change. I drew this doodle while I was trying to work with a flair up and my head was pounding, ears ringing, etc...

New Haiku

It is pouring rain
I feel it inside my head
drip drip drips dropping

I sleep yet I don't
sweet blissful slumber escapes
my breath betrays me

Messy Migraine Mandala

Here is another messy migraine mandala. I thought about redrawing it in ink, but I like the energy coming off the pencil version. So I heard back from the sleep apnea clinic and they want to fix my deviated septum along with some other things in the nose region so I can use my mask more at night and thus help my migraines hopefully. If that doesn't work, they are talking about some more aggressive surgeries down the road, but I'm not doing the jaw breaking thing.

The bad thing is that since these are fancy doctors at a university hospital, they are only able to schedule my surgery for early December.

Adventures in Sleep Apnea

So yesterday was my appointment at the clinic for my sleep apnea to see if they can get it under control to help my migraines. It was a very long day. First I saw The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery where they took some science fiction type x rays of my head and then I talked to the surgeon. There was some barbaric talk about breaking my upper and lower jaw and moving it forward, which would take like three months or more to heal and I wouldn't even look myself anymore.

After this appointment, I had a panic attack thinking about jaw breaking. Not to mention, this was a giant medical complex where I had to run around trying to find all these offices!

Then I saw a Sleep Physician to discuss my problems with the CPAP machine, etc. She discussed my whole history, my congestion problems and migraines.

My third appointment was with a ENT where they did the scope thing down the nose into the throat. They did squirt in some numbing solution, but it was still uncomfortable. This doctor said I had a deviated septum along with my palate being too narrow, etc...which gives me the severe sleep apnea. He could fix the septum thing which would give me more air in using my CPAP machine and there are a couple more invasive surgeries which could fix other things.

So after this long day of appointments, I finally escaped after four hours. All these clinic doctors having a meeting about you at the end of the day and they decide what they want to do, so I'm just waiting for the phone call. I'm really hoping it's just the deviated septum fix and not the other stuff which sounds truly nightmarish.

Little Migraine Zendalas

Here are some more little migraine zendalas that I drew for pain flair up stress relief.

I'm still struggling with the whole cpap machine/allergy thing, where I don't keep my mask on all night because of the sinus congestion and thus the migraines continue. I've tried a couple different nasal sprays which had horrible side effects. Coming up next is a visit to a new ENT doctor who specializes in sleep apnea patients. Hopefully, he will have some new ideas!

Migraine Zendala

I drew this zendala doodle during the beginning of a pain flair up as a distraction technique. Later I saw how uneven it was drawn. I thought to try to redraw it, but then I realized it was all right because it was represented that moment. Does that make sense?

Migraine Doodle

I was working on a contour line doodle and I realized that it looks a lot like how a migraine feels inside my head sometimes.

Whacky Doodling

I was using doodling for a pain distraction during work, and I was hoping to draw a traditional zentangle, but this whacky little garden popped up.
