Migraine Related Injury!

I think I have sustained my first migraine-related injury. I had a really rough week last week with migraine pain and stress at my job, so by the time I got home Friday night, I was so not in the mood to make dinner. I ordered pizza from my favorite local place. They are notorious for taking a long delivery time, but the pizza is extra good so it's worth the wait.

While I'm waiting for the pizza, I warm up the oven with my pizza pan inside. Then once I get the pizza, I chuck it in the oven for fifteen minutes. The bottom gets crispy and the cheese on top gets all melty again.

This time, I pulled the pizza pan from the oven with a hot pad and opened my pizza box. I tried to lift the pizza onto the pan, but the pizza was very floppy. In my migraine fogged brain, I decided to grab the pizza pan and slide it under the pizza. Problem solved. The only thing is that I forgot the hot pad part and just picked up the pan with my bare hand.

Holy crap! Did I burn the shit out of my right hand!! There was lots of screaming, etc...I ended up burning every one of my finger tips, especially my thumb as well as the palm of my hand.

Now there are blisters everywhere, and of course, I'm right handed. It made for an very interesting weekend, but I'm getting better with typing only with my left hand. Today should be very interesting at work.

It just makes me wonder that if I wasn't in a migraine fog, would I have done the same thing? Has anyone else had a migraine-related injury like this?

I am always grabbing hot pans with my bare hands, and I don't have to have a migraine to do it. However, I have had migraines for so many years, I believe they have destroyed the part of my brain that should be telling me not to do stuff like that.

Oh that sounds so painful! I couple of years ago in a migraine fog, I had knelt down to help my son with something by the stove. When I was coming back up, I put my hand on top of the stove for leverage. DUH! I had just turned off the burner a few minutes before and laid my hand right on it. Dang did that hurt! I hope you can figure out a way to type at work Migraine Chick. :)

Been there done that too. I believe that brain fog has a lot to do with the injuries I have and the stupid should've known better mistakes I make. I hate cooking for just that reason. I get so befuddled by it all. It used to be second nature to me.

I can't say if I'd had migraines or if it was my normal brain foggy moments though.

I do know that when I have a migraine my mind works slower.

Feel better soon!

OUCH! I hope you are on the mend!

Most of my migraine related injuries are banging my head into things.....that's no fun, but does not seem as painful as yours when you really think about it.

Feel better!

Oh dear, you poor thing! That foggy feeling stinks so much. I can totally understand how you might get hurt trying to do something when you're feeling that way.

Take care of yourself.

Yes but something diffrent. I had a terrible migraine one night and had no access to drugs b/c the bus home didn't arrive. I was serving in the Peace Corps at the time and slept at a hostel like place and the next day I felt better but still quite weak and had what I consider a minor migraine. Well what I didn't realize at the time was I had advanced degenerative disc disease (meaning a weak back - plus I was 23 who knew?!) so I slipped while walking to the bus stop on a rock. Didn't think anything of it and slipped 2 discs. 8 months later out of Peace Corps with a bad back still and migraines - yea I can relate - I really hate my migraines at times!!

Dear Migraine Chick, I am sorry you injured yourself so seriously. I don't have such a story. But I can always tell a migraine is coming on by way that I have done something especially clumsily or happhazardly. And yes, bruises, I've got bruises to show for it too. That's been a constant. One thing I worry about is driving. Driving when in pain, driving while on medication. Driving while taking topomax. If it were a perfect world I wouldn't be going to work feeling woozy so I could hold my job day in day out year after year.

Ouch! I had a very similar injury when I was younger. I used to work for a place frying donuts. I was right out of it on the day in question. I was trying to pay attention to flipping the donuts... they are in an open frier, and you flip them with large chopsticks. I saw a piece of apple in their (from fritters) and was chasing it around with the little sticks to get it out, but not paying too much attention, as in where my hand was... ending up dipping my hand right in the frier... 2nd and 3rd degree burns on all my fingers and knuckles. And did I scream? No. I was stunned and befuddled... and went to the sink to rince it off. Took me a few minutes to realize it was not drying oil on me, but my own skin rising up (yeah, eeew). And then a few more minutes for the staff around me to realize what happened. Anyway, hurt like hell. And taught me a valuable lesson... do not work a dangerous job when you have migraines.

That sounds awful, Myth. Maybe we should start some golden rules of migraines. First being: do not work a dangerous job when you have migraines!

I got to run over a guys mail box. I had lost my pherial (spelling) sorry and just couldn't see anymore and needed to go home. So I had to go back to the guys house and tell him what I had just done. It was totally embarrassing. :(

I couldn't think of anything when you first posted this, but I had a doozy last night - passed out and fell flat on my face. Not fun. You can read my sad story if you like at: http://meganoltmanfreemybrain.typepad.com/free_my_brain_from_migrai/2008/06/face-meet-floor.html
